Anaphylactic shock can be caused by a variety of factors.

Insect Bites and Stings

An insect bite or sting can also trigger anaphylactic reactions in people who are allergic to the bug. Bee stings cause the most reactions. Insect venom can contain antibodies that cause anaphylactic reactions. After a bite or sting, some people experience symptoms like itchy skin and swelling in the face or extremities. Individuals who are allergic bees, or to other insects, should seek treatment immediately after being bitten. This is especially important if they begin to experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing. Patients with allergies to insects should avoid areas at high risk, and refrain from outdoor activities in spring and summer. They can also carry an autoinjector of epinephrine wherever they go.
