Bulging Eyes: Causes and Treatment Guide

Eye Injury

A bulging eye can be caused by an eye injury, but the type of injury will vary from one case to another. The severity of the bulging will also differ, as will the prognosis. Bulging can be caused by bleeding behind the eye. The increased pressure causes the eyes to bulge forward. Some eye injuries may cause bulging and others might not. Individuals who suspect that they may have internal bleeding or an infection caused by an eye injury should consult a doctor immediately. One eye that suddenly bulges could indicate internal bleeding and require immediate medical attention. To prevent permanent vision loss, some eye injuries require emergency surgery, especially deep puncture wounds. Minor scratches are not as serious. Patients will need to monitor the wound to ensure it doesn’t become infected after having it evaluated by an eye specialist to determine if it’s serious.

Find out what causes bulging eyes.
