Cellulite: Causes and Risk Factors Guide

Inactive Lifestyle

Inactivity can lead to a lack of muscle definition, a decrease in muscle mass and weight gain. Cellulite may appear worse if these factors are present. Regular exercise, strength-training, can help patients improve the elasticity of connective tissue and increase the amount of muscle defined in areas where cellulite is most common, such as the thighs and buttocks. These exercises can improve the appearance of skin.

Experts suggest that you aim to do at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week. Running, weightlifting, swimming and tennis are some of the best activities to improve muscle definition and reduce cellulite. Patients should combine aerobic exercises and strength training activities. Strength can be built using dumbbells or elastic bands. Before beginning any new exercise program, individuals who have not been active for a long time should speak to their doctor. This will ensure that they are in good health. Participating in classes or working with a trainer could encourage regular exercise. Supervision can help prevent injuries and build good form.
