High In Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Chia seeds contain a large amount of omega-3 fats, which can be found in fish, flaxseed and other seeds. Omega-3 fatty acid comes in three different types. ALA, the most concentrated type of omega-3 fatty acid in chia seed, is classified as a essential acid. This means that the body cannot produce it on its own. The body needs the substance in order to function. Therefore, it must be consumed through food. Although the body can convert a small percentage of ALA to other omega-3 fatty acid, this is a very small amount. Therefore, individuals should try to incorporate the other two acids through their diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the membranes that surround every cell of the body. Membranes must be healthy to allow cells to function without damage.
