Health Benefits Of Cilantro (Coriander)

May Lower Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol

Cilantro can have a positive impact on a number of heart disease risk factors. Consuming cilantro may have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, reducing an individual’s chances of developing heart disease. The preliminary results are promising, but more research is needed. Cilantro’s ability is one of the areas that can be improved. This is because it lowers the low-density cholesterol (LDL), which is the “bad” type of cholesterol in the blood.

The same study which showed that cilantro lowers low-density cholesterol also revealed that the plant increased high-density cholesterol. This is commonly known as ‘good cholesterol’ in the blood. This study was only done on rats. More research is needed to see if the findings are also true for humans. These preliminary results do suggest that coriander seeds are used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease for a reason.
