27. SoftBank Robotics’ Pepper Humanoid Robots

What is it? Humanoid robot
Invented: 2014
Average price: $1.500*

Robots can come in all shapes and sizes. From smart speakers to vacuum cleaners that roam, the most impressive ones are those that look like people. SoftBank first introduced Pepper in 2014. Pepper is described as the “world’s first social robot capable of recognizing faces and basic human emotion” on the website.

Pepper is a fascinating piece of technology, particularly because so many companies have chosen to invest in one for their lobby entrances. The robot is a host at HSBC New York and has also worked a shift in London at the Smithsonian.
