Japanese inventions that changed the way we live and travel

87. Umbrella Tie

What is it: A tie that can transform into an umbrella
Invented: 2012
Average Price: Below $50*

Unusually, umbrellas are the subject of many Japanese inventions. The rainy season in Japan, also known as tsuyu, lasts between June and mid-July. If you live in Okinawa Islands, however, the rainy weather will begin in May. For tsuyu, Japanese Chindogu has young professionals covered.

Japanese inventors created a tie which can be converted into an umbrella. It’s unlikely Americans will ever see this in Dick’s Sporting Goods, but it’s a very useful invention. The umbrella body looks like a tiara and can be worn around the neck to transform it into rain gear.
