Metformin Side Effects Guide

Anemia

Metformin can cause a decrease in Vitamin B12 levels. This can lead to anemia. Metformin rarely causes anemia. This risk can be increased if you do not consume enough calcium and vitaminB12 in your diet. Anemia symptoms include fatigue, feeling dizzy, and lightheadedness. Patients can reduce this side effect by discontinuing metformin. However, they shouldn’t do so without their doctor’s approval. Doctors will often recommend that patients take vitamin B12 supplements before stopping metformin. It is a common side effect that can relieve anemia.
