Rotator cuff sprains and tears are the leading cause of shoulder discomfort in young patients who engage in vigorous weightlifting. Injuries to the rotator cuff are prevalent among athletes who participate in contact sports such as football, hockey, and basketball. These are injuries to the shoulder’s moving tendons and muscles. Tendons are susceptible to complete rupture or detachment from the bone.

This could be the result of an overuse injury, a trauma, or another event. In addition, a bone spur that presses on the rotator cuff can produce this condition. The pain often originates from the shoulder blade and is typically worse when lying down or resting on the affected side; some patients may have a problem so severe that it limits their shoulder mobility.

Your doctor will likely rule out a rotator cuff injury if you have significant shoulder pain after exercising or receiving a direct blow. Usually, rest and analgesics are insufficient to alleviate these conditions. Therefore, we encourage you to visit the doctor and discuss your symptoms.
