The Truth About Your Weight

People who are trying to lose weight tend to only focus on their scale number, and not consider other factors. Younger people often compare their weight, while ignoring other factors such as lifestyle, diet and body shape. The number you see on the scale is just that: a number. You should not assume that the number on the scale is a guide to a person’s journey of weight loss. Here are five ways to avoid being fooled.

What is BMI?

Some people are aware of the fact that BMI is a better guide than comparing themselves to someone shorter or taller. BMI is the Body Mass Index, which measures a person’s body fat by comparing their height and weight. It is useful but not recommended to be used alone. The “normal” score of one person may not be the same as another’s, depending on factors such as muscle mass and health concerns. Not only fat can make a person gain weight. It is therefore not uncommon to see a person with a high BMI who is not necessarily obese.
