A Guide to Understanding Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurvedic Medicine is the term used to describe a medical system that was developed in India from ancient writings. Ayurveda uses a holistic and natural approach for mental and physical well-being. Ayurveda was developed over three thousand year ago in India. It is one of oldest holistic medical systems. Ayurvedic treatments include aromatherapy, exercise and herbs. They also use massages and other supplements. Ayurveda, while widely used in India and the surrounding areas, is not considered a complementary and alternative medicine by the United States. Ayurvedic products and treatments are not reviewed or approved by the U.S. Food And Drug Administration. State-approved Ayurvedic training and schools are also rare in the United States.

Ayurvedic Medicine: Get to know it now.

It Works

Ayurvedic Medicine is based on the belief that every person is composed of five components found in the universe: fire, air, water and space. These five components combine to create three distinct energies called doshas. Each person inherits a unique combination of doshas that determines how their body functions. Doshas are a measure of a person’s health and their chances of getting sick. Ayurvedic treatment plans are created individually and take into account the unique emotional and physically makeup of each patient, as well as the primary life force. Ayurvedic medicines’ main objective is to eliminate all undigested foods from the body. This is done through a cleansing procedure called panchakarma, which uses methods like massage, herbs and laxatives.
