Japanese inventions that changed the way we live and travel

54. Smiling bumpers

What is it: Bumpers based on Pixar’s Movie Cars
Invented: 2017
Average price: $550 to $650*

Saitama in Japan has a bodywork shop which does all kinds of modifications. This modification was inspired by Carsseries which has grossed hundreds and millions of dollars at the box office. This Disney Pixar film featured animated talking cars. The Japanese body shop created a bumper using the cars.

This bumper is attached to the front of a Suzuki Twin, which is a small city car. The bumper with a smiling face gives the Twin a lively, animated feel. Although the body shop customizes the bumpers in-house, other Twin owners have purchased some bumpers online, typically at a cost of $550 to $650.
