Microneedling: Health Benefits

Reduces Hyperpigmentation And Age Spots

Microneedling also reduces hyperpigmentation, and age spots. It safely penetrates the upper layer of the skin, causing old tissues to shed, and new ones to grow. Hyperpigmentation occurs when melanin levels are too high. Melanin is the pigment that gives the skin its colour. Dark patches (age spots), or hyperpigmentation, can occur. A trauma can cause hyperpigmentation, resulting in inflammation and dark spots. Hyperpigmentation can also be caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Recent evaluation studies show that participants experienced significant improvement in hyperpigmentation after microneedling. Participants with dark skin tones had a worsened condition. The final results were evaluated four weeks after the initial treatment. In a 2015 review, it was revealed that microneedling treatment for melasma helped to reduce the dark spots. The treatment was done with a 1.5 millimeter needle. After the first procedure, participants applied a depigmentation cream and a tinted sunblock with SPF 60.
