Overview of the 5:2 Diet

Common Mistakes Made

Starting too quickly is one of the most common mistakes made by people who are new to intermittent fasting, and this includes those on the 5:2 Diet. Newbies to intermittent fasting shouldn’t attempt a 24-hour fast immediately. Individuals should instead gradually transition to the 5:2 Diet. It can vary depending on each individual. It is important to start with shorter fasts, like 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of eating. If you start the 5:2 too soon, it increases the likelihood that you will fail and give up the diet.

A common mistake is to eat only three large meals during non-fasting days. To maintain energy, people should spread out their meals. Some people also make the mistake to eat their limited calories at once when fasting. It is important to spread out energy intake on fasting and non-fasting days. Many people on the 5 to 2 diet forget to drink enough fluids. Water is not part of the restrictions on food. It is important to drink a lot of water when following this diet or any other method that involves intermittent fasting. Lastly, some patients do not listen to their bodies when they are on this diet. It is not for everyone, even though it works. Patients should speak to their doctor if they experience any negative side effects.
